THE LO-DOWN ON THE LIBRARY

Q: When is the library open?

The library is open every day from 7:20-3:00pm. Students may use the library before and after school, and during flex. During school hours, students must have a pass to visit the library.

Q: How many books can I check out?

Students may check out up to four books at a time. There are no rules on the types of materials students may check out. Students also have access to an unlimited number of eBook and audiobook checkouts through MackinVIA.

Q: How long can I borrow a book?

Books are checked out for 21 school days, with the option of renewal. Books will not automatically renew, so you will need to visit the library in order to do so.

Q: What if I lose a book or it gets severely damanged?

Life happens. We get it. Let Mrs. Rudock know if you believe you have lost a book. Sometimes, people find missing books and return them. If in fact the book is lost, we will let you know the replacement cost of the book. You can pay via cash or check (made payable to Hershey Middle School). If you have any questions about paying for a lost or damaged book, please see Mrs. Rudock.

Q: What else can I check out at the library?

In addition to print materials, students may check out laptops, iPads, Flip Cameras, tripods, headphones, and an assortment of device chargers. The library also has an assortment of eBooks and audiobooks, which can be accessed through MackinVIA.

Q: Does the library accept donations?

Absolutely!  We may not be able to put the book on the shelf for check-out (if the book meets the DTSD selection criteria), but we can use the books in our school programming or donate them to a local charity.

The library is also always looking for donations for our makerspace. Everything from old electronics to 2-liter soda bottles are welcome. Our students find innovative and creative ways to reuse "junk". We also always collect LEGOS and K'Nex.
